How do I mill cast iron (besides slowly!) - The Home Machinist!

Avoid shallow cuts like the plague when machining the surfaces of iron castings. A fly cutter running a brazed carbide tool, C2 grade, with the cutting edge leading the cut (greater than a 90° shoulder), should perform quite well. While I'm a serious fan of HSS, it's clearly a poor choice for cast iron, at least when breaking the skin.

Carbide tipped side milling cutters, Speeds and feeds?

Millng grade I would expect. Cutters I've found are milling cutters, and they list them in three grades, non-ferrous, cast iron, and steel. Then there's another listed for stainless. Speeds and feeds aren't listed. I haven't went back to the manufacturer for their numbers. That's no fun! Look at all the trouble I've gotten into here!
